  • These indigenous peoples live in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. They are known for their beautiful and singular ceramic skill as well as other fine crafts. Their language is from the Arawak branch, common to the Mehinako, Yawalapiti, Pareci and Enawene Nawe peoples as well.

The white man first made contact with the Waujá people in 1884, but their culture is understood to have existed for at least a thousand years before. They live next to the Lagoon called Piyulaga, that can be translated as "place", or "fishing camp" which is also the origin of the name of their village.

They have a fascinating and complex mythos-cosmology in which the relation between animals, things, humans and sentient beings from the forest permeate their conception of the world and are crucial to their Shamanic Practices.
